Augusta, Georgia, located in the east-central section of the state, is approximately 150 miles east of Atlanta on Interstate 20. The Savannah River serves as the boundary between Augusta and Aiken County, South Carolina. Augusta’s current population is about 200,000. Neighboring Columbia County is home to about 100,000. Along with several other Georgia and South Carolina counties the region is known as the Central Savannah River Area, commonly referred to as the CSRA, and is home to approximately half a million people. Augusta is Georgia’s second-oldest and second-largest city, founded during the British colonial period as a trading outpost.
There are just so many fun and exciting things to do here and yes, there is more than just golf in this fantastic location. This fabulous city of 200,000, offers great food and drink, shopping, recreation, parks, and more. Augusta has quite an interesting way to get around. You can take the Historic Trolley Tour, Petersburg boat tours through the Augusta Canal National Heritage Area, The SouthStar Trolley, and the Black History Trolley Tour.
This amazing area is a combination of history, excitement, and tons of outdoor activities. There are more than 100 restaurants, performing arts venues, shopping, museums, and more. All of this makes this area the perfect destination for weekend getaways with family and friends. It is also a fabulous place for a girl’s getaway!

Everyone knows there is so much to do in the Augusta area. Let’s take a peek at some of the favorites:
Augusta National Golf Club, also known as the National, is a golf club located here. The course was designed by Jones and Alister MacKenzie and opened for play in 1932. Since 1934, Augusta National has hosted the Masters Tournament. The Masters is one of the four major championships in professional golf, and the only major played each year at the same course.
Augusta National was the top-ranked course in Golf Digest’s 2009 list of America’s 100 greatest courses and was the number ten ranked course on Golfweek Magazine’s 2011 list of best classic courses in the USA.
Forest Area Trail System, aka FATS, is fantastic for bikers and hikers. Why? Because “FATS” has 6 loops and 34 miles of trail. It’s located just across the South Carolina border. On a side note, please visit the USDA Forest Service website for safety precautions and restrictions. FATS passes through lands that are open to hunting in season
