What living on Skidaway Island is really like
Skidaway Island sits about 15 miles southeast of downtown Savannah, wrapped in salt marsh, tidal creeks and maritime forest. It's quieter than the city and greener than the suburbs, and most people who live here will tell you the drive home over the bridge is the moment their shoulders drop.
The island is best known for The Landings, a large gated community with golf, marinas and miles of walking trails, but it's also home to Skidaway Island State Park and the UGA Marine Education Center and Aquarium. If you want water views, wildlife in the backyard and a slower pace while staying within reach of Savannah's restaurants and hospitals, Skidaway is worth a close look.
